In this 8 week class, you will learn how to make and assemble your own lamp. We will spend 4 weeks in the clay studio throwing and decorating ceramic bases. The remaining 4 weeks will be spent in the wood shop learning how to use the lathe, turning lamp parts and then assembling the final product. One lamp kit per student will be provided but bulbs and shades will need to be purchased individually. Ceramic throwing experience is necessary, no previous wood experience is required.

Open Lab: The clay portion of this class does not come with additional open lab time. Once the class switches into the wood studio, students will have access to the wood studio during open lab times.

Learn to turn! This class will be an introduction to using the lathe - a machine used for shaping all manner of cylindrical forms (think bowls, vases,  furniture legs, even pens!).

Over the course of four weeks, you will learn about the tools directly associated with the lathe and their primary uses. From practicing spindle turning to learning how to make bowls, we will learn the two major turning techniques that can be explored to no end with further practice.  This class will be as hands on as any class can, wasting no time before getting students turning with tool in hand (don’t worry, we’ll go over safety basics too). Beyond the basics we will practice, practice, practice. You will not want to turn your machines off!

Big spoon or little spoon? You don't have to pick in our very first 4-studio crossover class: Exploring Through Spoons!

In this 4-week class, you'll get a lightning fast introduction to our Clay, Wood, Metal, and Print studios. Each week, the students will be in a different studio learning the material through the ancient practice of spoon making (seriously, spoons are, like, 3,000 years old)! Weeks 1-3 will be spent making physical spoons through hand-building in clay, carving out of wood, and forging in metal. The last week will be spent learning linocut to make a one-of-kind print of their spoons, culminating in a display of craftsmanship for the ages.

Ages: 16+

This class meets weekly on TUESDAYS.

This class does NOT include extra open lab time. All work must be completed during class time.
