Learn the basics of linocut printmaking to make a poster! Printmaking allows the artist to create many copies of the same image, making it the perfect medium for spreading the word -- make a piece to commemorate an event, express a powerful statement, or simply share amongst friends. This class will cover the basics of carving and printing linoleum, designing a multi-color piece, tearing paper, and editioning. This class is 8 weeks, and comes with open lab.

Ages: 16+

All supplies and materials will be provided.

In this class, students will learn about the basics and varieties of intaglio printmaking, a process in which ink is pushed into the recesses of a plate and wiped away from the surface before printing, which allows for interesting textures, fine lines, and a high degree of detail. This class will cover drypoint, collagraph, Tetrapak printmaking, and copper etching techniques.

Channel your inner Andy Warhol and come try screen printing, also known as silk screen printing. This class is great for those who have limited printmaking experience and will provide an introduction from design conception to making a stencil, transferring it to the screen, and making a successful print.

Each week, the instructor will walk students through a different step of the technical screen printing process, breaking it down to its basics and opening your world to the myriad possibilities of this fun and adaptable printing process.

Using a variety of techniques, students will learn to compose and produce multicolored, multilayered monotype prints. We will begin by inking plexiglass plates to produce color flats, patterns, shapes and textures to which we will add other imagery, abstract layers, stenciled shapes or impressions of found materials depending on each student’s artistic goals.

Over the course of the class it will be possible to produce a number of finished artworks or just to learn how to use and combine various processes including drypoint etching and linoleum or Speedy-Cut block relief prints. Consider bringing some materials for inspiration such as photographs, sketches, or ideas that you would like to work from or explore.

Big spoon or little spoon? You don't have to pick in our very first 4-studio crossover class: Exploring Through Spoons!

In this 4-week class, you'll get a lightning fast introduction to our Clay, Wood, Metal, and Print studios. Each week, the students will be in a different studio learning the material through the ancient practice of spoon making (seriously, spoons are, like, 3,000 years old)! Weeks 1-3 will be spent making physical spoons through hand-building in clay, carving out of wood, and forging in metal. The last week will be spent learning linocut to make a one-of-kind print of their spoons, culminating in a display of craftsmanship for the ages.
