Metal Adult Session 2B: Metal Studio Sampler (4-week) FRI Apr 4 - Apr 25

Ever wonder what goes on inside a metalworking studio? Come and try out a selection of metalworking techniques in our classroom studio! Sample practicing a variety of cold-work and hot-work processes! Students will try their hand at welding, blacksmithing, fabrication, and sheet-metal along with a highly experienced Metal-Fabricator!

What to Wear in the Metals Studio?  

You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot. 

Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed. 

Personal Property: 

Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage.

All Friday, Saturday, and Sunday classes will be available to register on Friday, February 7 at 8:00 am. 

Wood Adult Session 2B: Unleash Your Inner Carver (4-week)

Discover the ancient art of wood carving and transform walnut or cherry wood into stunning sculptures. This four-week workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced carvers, offering an exploration of techniques, tools, and design. 

Class Policies & Information:

Open Lab: This class includes access to the studio during Open Lab hours. Open Lab is exclusively for students who are currently enrolled in the program. You are allowed to attend one Open Lab session per week, totaling 3 hours during the duration of your class. You may only attend the Open Lab session for the class in which you are registered. This time is intended for independent work on your class project. While studio staff will be present, they are there to ensure you are using the tools safely, not to provide instruction.

Class Make-Up: Our studios are full with adult and youth classes 7 days a week, 48 weeks a year. Typically, every class is full, which means there is simply no space for students to make up classes. If we cancel an entire class due to weather or other emergencies, we can not guarantee we will be able to schedule a make-up class. Individuals who miss a class will not be able to make it up. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about missed classes.

Studio Clean Up: Clean-up is critical! Please help our hardworking staff and volunteers by beginning clean-up 30 minutes before the end of class, helping out with common areas, and leaving class on time.

Ages: 16+

Print Adult Session 2B: Exploring Patterns and Textures (4-week)

Explore patterns and textures by layering found objects into prints. Learn the basics of monotype printmaking using plexiglass plates, applying ink and incorporating found objects.

Students will learn the basics of monotype printmaking using plexiglass plates, applying ink and incorporating found objects.

This class is ideal for those who have limited experience with printmaking. A monotype is a print that typically starts with a blank surface and results in a one-of-a-kind print. 

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including making a collagraph plate, mixing and applying ink, and making a print using the press. Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!  

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Wood Adult Session 2B: Craft Your Culinary Masterpiece: A Charcuterie Board (4-week)

Wood Adult Session 2B: Saturday Woodworking Sampler (4-week)

Immerse yourself in the world of woodworking by joining our comprehensive sampler class! This workshop is perfect for beginners who are looking to familiarize themselves with a woodshop, and who aim to become comfortable with the basics of milling and hand tools. Throughout the process of making a cutting board of multiple species of wood, you will gain experience with essential tools and techniques, including:

Safety: You will learn to operate essential milling machines, such as the Chop Saw, Jointer, Thickness Planer, Table Saw, and Bandsaw with a focus on safe and repeatable procedures. 

Basic Joinery: In joining our multiple species of wood for our cutting board, together we will learn the strongest and most often used joint in woodworking, the edge to edge glue joint. 

Hand Tool Usage: Once our cutting boards have been glued and clamped together, we will explore the usage and purpose of hand tools like saws, chisels, and planes in which each student will get hands-on experience. 

Power Tool Operation: Safely operate power tools such as drills, sanders, and routers.

Finishing: We will end our class by finishing our cutting boards with a food safe mineral oil and wax solution to ensure the longevity of our projects. 

This sampler class is designed to build your confidence and comfort with woodworking, laying a solid foundation for any advanced classes you may choose to pursue in the future. You’ll also have the chance to connect with other passionate woodworking enthusiasts, sharing ideas and experiences in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Print Adult Session 2B: Introduction to Screen Printing (4-week)

Screen printing is fun! Be just like Andy Warhol, Laurie Hastings, or Corita Kent, and come try screen printing, also known as silk screen printing.

This class is great for those who have limited printmaking experience. Learn the basics of screen printing using a silk screen. This course provides an introduction to creating your idea, making a stencil, transferring it to the screen, and making a successful print.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week.

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Simple Boxmaking

Learn to create simple boxes to fit your favorite book or set of cards. We'll begin by cutting bookboard to size and constructing a simple box. Next, students will learn how to cover the box with paper or bookcloth. Finally, students will create a case to enclose the box which will safely store the book or cards with a ribbon tie closure. Brenda Gallagher will lead the class and display several variations to this simple box.

The Book Arts League is a Colorado-based community of individuals who share an interest in letterpress printing, calligraphy, and bookbinding.

Full Course

Print Adult Session 2B - Printmaking SAMPLER (4-week)

Have you always wanted to try printmaking, but didn't know where to start? This class is ideal for those who have limited experience and want a taste of the varied and intricate art of printmaking.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques for each of the following: relief, monotype, and intaglio. This will include carving, mixing and rolling ink, and making a successful print.

This course provides a great way to get a real sense of the art of printmaking, and to identify which direction to go next! Come have some fun in our printmaking studio!

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.
