Immerse yourself in the world of woodworking by joining our comprehensive sampler class! This workshop is perfect for beginners who are looking to familiarize themselves with a woodshop, and who aim to become comfortable with the basics of milling and hand tools.
This sampler class is designed to build your confidence and comfort with woodworking, laying a solid foundation for any advanced classes you may choose to pursue in the future. You’ll also have the chance to connect with other passionate woodworking enthusiasts, sharing ideas and experiences in a supportive and welcoming environment.
This Class Does NOT include Open Lab
Class Policies & Information:
Class Make-Up: Our studios are full with adult and youth classes 7 days a week, 48 weeks a year. Typically, every class is full, which means there is simply no space for students to make up classes. If we cancel an entire class due to weather or other emergencies, we can not guarantee we will be able to schedule a make-up class. Individuals who miss a class will not be able to make it up. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about missed classes.
Studio Clean Up: Clean-up is critical! Please help our hardworking staff and volunteers by beginning clean-up 30 minutes before the end of class, helping out with common areas, and leaving class on time.

Print Adult Session 4A • Level II Woodblock • MON (Jun 23 - Jul 14)

Woodblock printing has a rich history, particularly in East Asian cultures, where it was used to create both text and images on the same block. Also known as woodcut, woodblock printing is a relief printmaking technique where areas of the wood block that are not meant to be printed are carved away, leaving the image areas raised.
This 8-week intermediate to advanced level relief print class expands on the basics of relief and will include weekly instruction on techniques including carving, mixing and rolling ink, measuring and tearing paper, using the printing press, and making an edition of prints.
This is a level 2 class, students are recommended to have some level of printmaking experience to participate.
Ages: 16+
All supplies and materials will be provided.

Adult Session 4 • Level III Wheel • MON (June 23 - Aug. 11) • $305 • HILL

This class is focused towards intermediate/advanced students that want to learn more technical skills and studio processes.
The demonstrations for this class will show more advanced techniques, such as how to make larger and more complicated pieces. You will learn more about materials and different processes. Students with individual learning goals or special projects are welcome to join this class.

Note: This class will meet at the Hill location at 1010 Aurora Avenue. You will only have open lab access at the same studio as your class.
All pieces will be fired to Cone 6 in a reduction kiln.

Adult Session 4 • Level I Wheel • MON (June 23 - Aug. 11) • $285 • MAIN

For students that have never touched clay to those still learning the basics.
This class will cover the basic “how tos” of pottery. Students will learn the foundations of throwing, including how to confidently center, pull, and trim pots on the wheel. The class will also cover basic glazing techniques, attaching handles, and how to track your pieces through the studio.
Ages: 16 and above
Class meets weekly on MONDAYS
Note: This class will meet at the MAIN location at 3750 Canfield Street. You will only have open lab access at the same studio as your class.

Adult Session 4 Crossover • Char-CUTE-rie Set • TUE (June 24 - Aug. 12) • $350 • MAIN

We know it's cheesy, but don't bee fooled by how cute this set is - there's plenty of meat to this multi-studio crossover class. Learn how to make your own charcuterie set in this 8 week clay/wood crossover class! We will spend 4 weeks in the clay wheel studio making small plates, ramekins and other dishes perfect for your charcuterie night. The remaining 4 weeks will be spent in the wood shop working on a beautiful board to serve it on. Since this class moves fairly quickly previous clay wheel experience is required.
Open Lab: The clay portion of this class does not come with additional open lab time. Once the class switches into the wood studio, students will have access to the wood studio during open lab times.
Ages: 16+

Print Adult Session 4A • Level I: Copper Etching • TUE (Jun 24 - Jul 15)

We're making "etch" happen, y'all! Copper etching is an intaglio (incising a plate) technique that typically requires harsh chemicals and acids. But at Groundworks, we're all about bucking tradition and trying new methods and are excited to offer an acid-free alternative.
Join us for a captivating 4-week printmaking class, where creativity and craftsmanship intertwine! Perfect for curious printmakers, this class offers a hands-on exploration of our chemical-free etching technique, engage with tools and materials, and design and print a copper plate.
Ages: 16+
All supplies and materials will be provided.

Adult Session 4 • Level I Wheel • TUE (June 24 - Aug. 12) • Pay What You Can • EAST

PLEASE NOTE: This class runs for 3.5 hours, which includes 1 hour of work time at the end of each class period. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time. You will also not have access to the Groundworks other locations.

Adult Session 4 • Modern Ceramic Decor • TUE (June 24 - Aug. 12) • EAST

Have you ever wanted to turn a ball of clay into a unique, funky, modern, creative statement piece for your home? Well, have we got some good news for you!
This 8-week hand-building class will explore basic hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab rolling. But it will also funk it up by teaching how to apply those skills to create a number of delicate and modern embellishments like ceramic chains, hinges for lidded vessels, surface decoration, and more. Join in to learn the basics of how to make hand-built altars, wall hangings, boxes and more. Hand-building experience will give you a leg up, but it's not necessary - beginners are welcome!
This class meets weekly on TUESDAYS
Does NOT include additional open lab time or clay.
