For students that have never touched clay to those still learning the basics.
This class will cover the basic “how tos” of pottery. Students will learn the foundations of throwing, including how to confidently center, pull, and trim pots on the wheel. The class will also cover basic glazing techniques, attaching handles, and how to track your pieces through the studio.
PLEASE NOTE: This class runs for 3.5 hours, which includes 1 hour of work time at the end of each class period. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time. You will also not have access to the Groundworks other locations.
Ages: 16 and above

Level I Hand-building for students wanting to explore the basic techniques for hand-building functional, sculptural, or decorative pieces.
Learn about the various hand-building tools, and the three basic hand-building techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab rolling through a series of self-guided projects.
PLEASE NOTE: This class runs for 3.5 hours, which includes 1 hour of work time at the end of each class period. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time. You will also not have access to the Groundworks other locations.

This class is great for students who already have some experience with clay and are looking to take the next step.
The demonstrations for this class go beyond the basics. Students will learn how to make more complex forms and techniques including: altered forms, lidded jars, throwing off-the-hump, sgraffito, and more.

Always wanted to try hand-building, but didn't know where to start? This class is a great intro to the studio in 5 short weeks!
This class is intended to get you familiar with the basics of hand-building. Students will learn techniques like pinching, coiling, and building with slabs. This class is ideal for those who have limited experience, but are looking to learn more with a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week.
Please note: This class does not include Open Lab hours or additional clay.
Ages 16+ to register

BAL • Adult • Letterpress Printing on Maps • SAT (Mar 21) • $100 • East

We will print a saying of your choice over the wonderful textures and colors of old maps using the Vandercook letterpress. “Get Your Kicks on Route 66!”, “Life’s a Journey”, “Those who wander are not lost” - or any short quote you might think of. Make a special gift for travel-partners or mark a special place with “x-marks-the-spot”.
Bring your own maps - which we will trim to size - or take from our vast supply. Everyone will take home five 9”x14” broadsides.
The Book Arts League is a Colorado-based community of individuals who share an interest in letterpress printing, calligraphy, and bookbinding.
(kids 12+ must be accompanied by an adult)
All supplies and materials will be provided.

BAL • Adult • Silk Tie Covered Case Bound Book • TUE (Mar 31) • $120 • East

Do you have a super cool tie from the back of your Grandpa's closet with a cool funky design? You can make that silk tie into a beautiful handmade book! Join Brenda Gallagher to transform the fabric from your old tie into a paper backed book cloth that can be used to cover boards of your own hand sewn blank journal. You can bring your own tie or choose one of the dozens of ties from Brenda's collection to cover your book. We'll begin making ties into bookcloth, then we'll proceed to cover our book boards with the tie bookcloth to make a case. The blank book for the inside of our book will be hand sewn and include colorful endpapers and matching endbands. Come spend the day learning beginning case bound book binding skills that show off your Grandpa tie flair.

BAL • Adult • Pocket Notebook • THU (April 2) • $110 • East
with Gregory Robl
Create a small, leather-bound notebook that is refillable (3.5" x 5.5"). We'll build two signatures of fine writing paper of about 30 pages each. We'll sew them with linen thread and include a pocket cut and folded from cardstock. Then we'll enclose the signatures in the leather cover with an elastic cord or a leather cord, depending on preference. Participants can emboss their initials or name on the cover.
