Join Brenda Gallagher for an afternoon of fun paper projects to liven up your holiday decor. We'll create some colorful bulb ornaments from decorative paper strips, lattice cut holiday trees and a folded star wreath. Come join the fun! All materials provided.

The Book Arts League is excited to announce that we will now offer open studio hours! Our shop will be available monthly for you to print your work. Below are the open studio dates for the remainder of the year. BAL board members will be your hosts and will assist you with your printing projects. Please bring your own paper and get ready to print!

WEDNESDAY Nov. 12 — 4:00-6:00PM

This beginner-friendly course invites students to explore the creative possibilities of clay through sculptural handbuilding techniques. Participants will learn the fundamentals of coil, slab, and pinch construction while gaining confidence in shaping three-dimensional forms. The course also introduces surface design methods such as carving, texturing, and glazing to enhance finished pieces. Whether you're interested in making abstract forms, figures, or decorative objects, this class provides a supportive space to develop your skills and express yourself through clay. No prior experience is needed. All are welcome.

This class takes place at Groundworks EAST 3063 Sterling Circle, Boulder, CO. The EAST studio has a separate classroom for the hand-building class.

PLEASE NOTE: This 8-week class runs for 2.5 hours each class. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time and all work will be completed during class time. You will also not have access to our other locations.

Japanese stoneware is renowned for its humble, rustic simplicity, and embrace of imperfection. In this class we will create beautiful functional pottery inspired by the forms, handbuilding methods, and decorating techniques common to Japanese stoneware traditions. These include: handforming, coiling and pinching, kurinuki, slab construction, mishima, and surface texturing.

This class will cover the basic “how tos” of pottery. Students will learn the foundations of throwing, including how to confidently center, pull, and trim pots on the wheel. The class will also cover basic glazing techniques, attaching handles, and how to track your pieces through the studio.

Level I Hand-building for students wanting to explore the basic techniques for hand-building functional, sculptural, or decorative pieces.

Learn about the various hand-building tools, and the three basic hand-building techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab rolling through a series of self-guided projects.

PLEASE NOTE: This class runs for 3.5 hours, which includes 1 hour of work time at the end of each class period. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time. You will also not have access to the Groundworks other locations.

This class is great for students who already have some experience with clay and are looking to take the next step.

The demonstrations for this class go beyond the basics. Students will learn how to make more complex forms and techniques including: altered forms, lidded jars, throwing off-the-hump, sgraffito, and more.
