In this class, students will learn about the basics and varieties of intaglio printmaking, a process in which ink is pushed into the recesses of a plate and wiped away from the surface before printing, which allows for interesting textures, fine lines, and a high degree of detail. This class will cover drypoint, collagraph, Tetrapak printmaking, and copper etching techniques, and students will learn how to create compelling prints from start to finish.
This class is 8 weeks and comes with Open Lab.

Metal • Adult • Level I: Blacksmithing • Thu (Jan 8 - Jan 29) • $410 • MAIN

If you have wondered what the craft of blacksmithing is like to practice, this class is for you. Experience the joy of forging steel into objects of utility and beauty. This beginning level class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and appropriate use of the anvil, as well as an introduction to object-making using multiple methods of shaping hot metals. Students will develop crucial skills for more advanced blacksmithing projects.
This class has no prerequisites and is specifically set up for absolute beginners to this art form. Our Metal Studio does have some safety basics before anyone is allowed to join in the fun (failure to meet these requirements will result in not being granted access to the equipment):

Please come dressed in close-toe and heel shoes, and natural material clothing, i.e. cotton or linen, long pants are recommended.

For welding, you must wear a shirt with long sleeves that fully covers your chest. We recommend a long sleeved button down.

No loose or dangling jewelry, long earrings or scarves.

If you have long hair, please have it securely tied back from your face.

Wood • Adult • Level I: Woodturning • Thu (Jan 8 - Jan 29) • $275• MAIN

Learn to turn! This class will be an introduction to using the lathe - a machine used for shaping all manner of cylindrical forms (think bowls, vases, furniture legs, even pens!).
Over the course of four weeks, you will learn about the tools directly associated with the lathe and their primary uses. From practicing spindle turning to learning how to make bowls, we will learn the two major turning techniques that can be explored to no end with further practice. This class will be as hands on as any class can, wasting no time before getting students turning with tool in hand (don’t worry, we’ll go over safety basics too). Beyond the basics we will practice, practice, practice. You will not want to turn your machines off!
This class has no prerequisites and is open to beginners and seasoned woodworkers alike, but our Wood Studio has some safety basics before anyone is allowed to join in the fun (failure to meet these requirements will result in not being granted access to the equipment):
- Please come dressed in close-toed shoes, a shirt that can be tucked in and either short sleeves, or sleeves that can be rolled up past your elbows.
- No loose or dangling jewelry.
- If you have long hair, please have it securely tied back from your face.
- We will provide safety goggles and/or full face shields, ear protection, and face masks to cover nose and mouth, but if you have your own PPE you would prefer to use, please do!

Join us for a hands-on woodworking class where you’ll craft a beautiful cutting boards—perfect for gifts or to keep in your own kitchen! Using a single wood species of your choice, you’ll learn how to cut, shape, sand, and finish your board into fun and creative silhouettes based on existing templates.
No prior woodworking experience is necessary! This class is a great introduction to basic woodworking tools and techniques in a relaxed, supportive environment.

New to printmaking and don't know where to start? Look no further than our 4-week introductory relief printmaking sampler!
This sampler will take you on a more directed 4-week tour of the world of relief printing (carving an image into or out of a block). Each week, the instructor will show you a different media to carve - be it Speedycut (rubber), linoleum, wood, or something experimental like an old tire or a piece of traffic cone. You'll learn all this as well as how to measure and tear paper, mixing and applying ink, and the basics of using the printing press.
This course provides a great way to get a real sense of the art of relief printmaking, and to identify which direction to go next. Once you start, your options are endless!

This class is great for those who have limited printmaking experience and will provide an introduction from design conception to making a stencil, transferring it to the screen, and making a successful print.
Each week, the instructor will walk students through a different step of the technical screen printing process, breaking it down to its basics and opening your world to the myriad possibilities of this fun and adaptable printing process.

Immerse yourself in the world of woodworking by joining our comprehensive sampler class! This workshop is perfect for beginners who are looking to familiarize themselves with a woodshop, and who aim to become comfortable with the basics of milling and hand tools.
This sampler class is designed to build your confidence and comfort with woodworking, laying a solid foundation for any advanced classes you may choose to pursue in the future. You’ll also have the chance to connect with other passionate woodworking enthusiasts, sharing ideas and experiences in a supportive and welcoming environment.
This Class Does NOT include Open Lab
Class Policies & Information:
Class Make-Up: Our studios are full with adult and youth classes 7 days a week, 48 weeks a year. Typically, every class is full, which means there is simply no space for students to make up classes. If we cancel an entire class due to weather or other emergencies, we can not guarantee we will be able to schedule a make-up class. Individuals who miss a class will not be able to make it up. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about missed classes.
Studio Clean Up: Clean-up is critical! Please help our hardworking staff and volunteers by beginning clean-up 30 minutes before the end of class, helping out with common areas, and leaving class on time.
What to wear to the wood studio?
Safety First: Long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Shirts and tops should be easy to tuck in, with sleeves that can be rolled up as needed. Tie back long hair to ensure safety. We offer safety goggles, dust masks and ear protection, and they must be worn in the wood studio. Feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with them. Jewelry, loose-fitting clothing, or any other items that could dangle will need to be secured while using machines.
