In this class we'll explore traditional and contemporary Japanese pottery forms using construction and decorating techniques inspired by Japanese stoneware traditions. Previous enrollment in the Level 1 Japanese-Inspired Handbuilding class is not required. The class will cover lidded jars, bottles, vases and serving dishes using coil, slab and kurinuki techniques. Decorative methods will include mishima, kohiki and traditional glazing styles. The class will culminate with a western style raku firing.
Please only register for this class if you have some previous slab and coil rolling experience.
Ages: 16+
Class meets weekly on FRIDAYS for 8 weeks.
Note: This class will meet at the Hill location at 1010 Aurora Avenue. You will only have open lab access at the same studio as your class.
