Cuts and Cards: Letterpress printing your own cards
with Brenda Gallagher
$140
In some printshops you can find images that look like raised pictures mounted on wood or metal blocks. Commonly called cuts, they are for advertisements or illustrations used in letterpress printing jobs in the mid-19th-late 20th century. They are still around to be used for a variety of letterpress projects, like this workshop.
This class will use the cuts available in our print studio to make cards. Students will pick some images and be shown how to set them up in the Vandercook press and print an edition. They will also set and print metal type for a phrase to accompany the images on their cards.
Everyone will leave with a set of cards of their own making.
This is an opportunity to explore the printshop and make a truly unique card.
No experience required.
Ages: 16+
All supplies and materials will be provided.
Will be available to register on Friday, December 13th at 8:00am.
