This class will cover the basic “how tos” of pottery. Students will learn the foundations of throwing, including how to confidently center, pull, and trim pots on the wheel. The class will also cover basic glazing techniques, attaching handles, and how to track your pieces through the studio.

Clay • Adult • Level III Specialty: Ancient Pottery • THU (Jan. 8 - Feb. 26) • $305 • MAIN

The first fired-clay figurine ever found dates back to 29,000 BC. The potter’s wheel was first used by the Egyptians in 3000 BC. In this class students will choose any piece of ancient ceramics from the year 1 AD and earlier to recreate to the best of their abilities. Whether it be sculpture or pottery, handbuilding or wheel throwing, you will do your best to mimic the shape and style of the pieces we are drawn to. Just a few of the eras to look at are: Nazca, Ancient Greek, Minoan, Mycenaean, Etruscan, Jomon and so many more!

Crossover (Clay/Wood) • Adult • Char-CUTE-rie • THU (Jan. 8 - Feb. 26) • $350 • MAIN

We know it's cheesy, but don't bee fooled by how cute this set is - there's plenty of meat to this multi-studio crossover class. Learn how to make your own charcuterie set in this 8 week clay/wood crossover class! We will spend 4 weeks in the clay hand-building studio making small plates, ramekins and other dishes perfect for your charcuterie night. The remaining 4 weeks will be spent in the wood shop working on a beautiful board to serve it on. All levels welcome.
Open Lab: The clay portion of this class does not come with additional open lab time. Once the class switches into the wood studio, students will have access to the wood studio during open lab times.
What to wear to the wood studio?
Safety First: Long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Shirts and tops should be easy to tuck in, with sleeves that can be rolled up as needed. Tie back long hair to ensure safety. We offer safety goggles, dust masks and ear protection, and they must be worn in the wood studio. Feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with them. Jewelry, loose-fitting clothing, or any other items that could dangle will need to be secured while using machines.
Safety Information:

Welcome to the world of pottery! This class is designed for young children that are new to clay and working to develop their skills in hand-building. Students will create fun and unique projects in functional and sculptural forms. Children will learn to build strong, hollow pieces and will slip and paint their own work. Join us for these weekly classes where kids can get messy, learn about clay, and make new friends!
Bring imagination into form through basic clay techniques and creative problem-solving. Instructors will encourage students to try new things and make vibrant works of art. Students will slip and paint their own work.
Ages: 5 - 9
This class is Pay What You Can with a suggested price of $100.

Great for students that are brand new to the wheel as well as those that are working to improve their throwing skills!
Students will practice wheel-throwing on the potter's wheel as well as create hand-built pieces using the slab roller and extruder. On the final class, students will learn about glazing their pieces. Classes take place downstairs at our Hill location (1010 Aurora Ave Boulder, CO).
Ages: 8-11

Clay • Adult • The Wonderful World of Raku • THU (Jan. 8 - Feb. 26) • $285 • MAIN

Please join us for the Wonderful World of Raku! A class specializing in Handbuilding and Raku techniques from different parts of the world. We will be doing firings based on Japanese, Western (Horsehair/Natural) and Eastern European (Obvara) reduction firing techniques. You can't miss this!
Class does NOT include additional open lab time or clay. All work must be completed during class time.
