Metal Adult Session 5A Class 4A: Hive Tool • FRI (1 - Day Class) • MAIN

Calling all Beekeepers! Forge your own J-style hive tool for use in your apiary. This is an introductory course where you will learn fire safety and management, shaping hot steel, and the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil. You will spend some time forging, filing, twisting, and forming material. You will walk away with a useful bee-yard tool.
What to Wear in the Metals Studio?
You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot.
Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed.
Personal Property:
Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage.

Beginner Blacksmithing – Barbecue Tools
Entry Level Class (No prerequisite required) in Blacksmithing
Enjoy the use of your own hand-made accessories and fire up the grill! Learn to make twisted skewers and a steak-turner. This beginning level class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and appropriate use of the anvil. Beginners will develop their tapering, bending, twisting, and punching skills. These techniques are a crucial ingredient for more advanced blacksmithing projects.

Beginner Welding Courses - Welding 101 Picture Frames
Entry Level Class (No prerequisite required) in Welding
Gas Metal Arc Welding, is the process by which an electric arc forms between a wire electrode and metal, causing fusion. Students will learn MIG wire-feed welding and the basics of creating a rectangular frame for personal photos. Students will be using steel angle and steel bar stock. Students will learn the basic techniques for drilling and threading holes for screws, as well as using a hand-held grinder. Students will learn techniques for putting steel together to make rectangular forms.

This class will teach you shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil. You will learn basic techniques for shaping hot steel, twisting, and punching and drifting holes.

Come create custom hooks of various styles for use around your home and out in your yard. Whether hanging a wreath upon a door, or a hanging basket from your porch, you will learn to shape hooks from different weights of steel bar. This beginning level class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and appropriate use of the anvil. In this course, students will learn to bend and shape steel. Students will practice traditional blacksmithing techniques, such as tapering, bending, twisting, and punching; using the forge and anvil. This class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil. Students will leave with valuable skills in blacksmithing while gaining self-confidence with completed projects such as a bracelet, hook, fork, or spoon.

This class can be on your own or it is a perfect date night! Forging hooks is an introductory course where you will learn shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil and you will spend some time forging, tapering, bending, scrolling and forming material. You will walk away with at least two to three decorative hooks.
