The Family Clay Class is a great opportunity for children to work together with an adult to make hand-built pottery!

In this extended class students will learn a variety of hand-building techniques, using tools, textures, stamps, and molds. Instructor will lead students in both functional and sculptural pottery projects and students will paint each finished piece with colored slips. Emphasis is on working on a project as a family. This is a fun class, built around community and creativity!

Please note registration is for 1 child and their adult. If you have more family members that want to get involved, please send an email to registration-clay@groundworksartlab.org!

New to printmaking and don't know where to start? Look no further than our 4-week introductory printmaking sampler! 

Each week our instructor will lead students through introductory techniques for different types of printmaking such as relief (carving into a block), monotype (one-of-a-kind prints made by layering objects on a plate), and intaglio (scratching an image into a surface). You'll learn all this as well as how to measure and tear paper, mixing and applying ink, and the basics of using the printing press.

This course provides a great way to get a real sense of the art of printmaking, and to identify which direction to go next! Once you start, your options are endless!

Ages: 16+

Immerse yourself in the world of woodworking by joining our comprehensive sampler class! This workshop is perfect for beginners who are looking to familiarize themselves with a woodshop, and who aim to become comfortable with the basics of milling and hand tools. 

This sampler class is designed to build your confidence and comfort with woodworking, laying a solid foundation for any advanced classes you may choose to pursue in the future. You’ll also have the chance to connect with other passionate woodworking enthusiasts, sharing ideas and experiences in a supportive and welcoming environment. 

This Class Does NOT include Open Lab

Class Policies & Information:

Class Make-Up: Our studios are full with adult and youth classes 7 days a week, 48 weeks a year. Typically, every class is full, which means there is simply no space for students to make up classes. If we cancel an entire class due to weather or other emergencies, we can not guarantee we will be able to schedule a make-up class. Individuals who miss a class will not be able to make it up. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about missed classes.

Studio Clean Up: Clean-up is critical! Please help our hardworking staff and volunteers by beginning clean-up 30 minutes before the end of class, helping out with common areas, and leaving class on time.

What to wear to the wood studio?  

Safety First: Long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle.  Shirts and tops should be easy to tuck in, with sleeves that can be rolled up as needed.  Tie back long hair to ensure safety.  We offer safety goggles, dust masks and ear protection, and they must be worn in the wood studio.  Feel free to bring your own if you are more comfortable with them.  Jewelry, loose-fitting clothing, or any other items that could dangle will need to be secured while using machines.

Safety Information:

Calendar Nov 23, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks

In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of chasing and repousse on copper sheet, including proper posture and hammering techniques, transferring a design, using pitch, annealing and pickling, as well as theory and history. We will start with sample projects, and you’ll have the opportunity to work on your own design in the later weeks.

What to Wear in the Metals Studio?

We wish for all students to have a safe and enjoyable learning experience. Proper safety equipment and PPE will be provided for use within the studio.

Please dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class inall-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heelshoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair should betied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are notrecommended around machines, equipment, or processes that can producehot fragments, sparks, or flames. Please avoid synthetic blends, as100% cotton is recommended. Layers are encouraged, as the studio canbegin cool then become very hot.

Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to preventarc-flash burns (much like a sunburn). 

All students participating in activities involving sparks or hot metal are encouraged to wear leather boots or older shoes.

Please bring a re-fillable water bottle!

Class Policies & Information:

Open Lab: This class includes access to the studio during Open Lab hours. Open Lab is exclusively for students who are currently enrolled in the program. You are allowed to attend one Open Lab session per week, totaling 3 hours during the duration of your class. You may only attend the Open Lab session for the class in which you are registered. This time is intended for independent work on your class project. While studio staff will be present, they are there to ensure you are using the tools safely, not to provide instruction.

Join us for a creative time in the woodshop where you will craft a beautiful leaf press made from Cherry, Walnut or Maple hardwood and decorate it with personalized pyrography. Right on cue for the vibrant colors of fall leaves, this hands-on class guides you through the process of building and customizing your own leaf press to take home.  Learn the art of wood burning as you add unique designs and touches to your leaf press, creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake. It’s the perfect blend of craftsmanship and creativity, giving you a memorable experience and a lasting piece of art to cherish.

This class has no prerequisites and is open to beginners and seasoned woodworkers alike, but our Wood Studio has some safety basics before anyone is allowed to join in the fun (failure to meet these requirements will result in not being granted access to the equipment): 

  •  Please come dressed in close-toed shoes, a shirt that can be tucked in and either short sleeves, or sleeves that can be rolled up past your elbows. 
  • No loose or dangling jewelry.
  • If you have long hair, please have it securely tied back from your face.
  • We will provide safety goggles and/or full face shields, ear protection, and face masks to cover nose and mouth, but if you have your own PPE you would prefer to use, please do!

Glass fusing, also known as kiln-formed glass, involves heating multiple pieces of glass in a kiln to create a single, fused piece. It's a versatile art form with many practical and decorative applications.

Come learn and explore the basics of using glass as an artmaking medium in just a few short hours in this introductory level class. We’ll provide a selection of colored glass sheets for you to use in your own design or choose from pre-made designs like a flower, rainbow, or heart. Then hang your suncatcher in your window at home and enjoy the way the light dances through your design!

This class has no prerequisites and is specifically set up for absolute beginners to this art form. Our Glass Studio does have some safety basics before anyone is allowed to join in the fun (failure to meet these requirements will result in not being granted access to the equipment): 

  • Please come dressed in close-toe and heel shoes, and natural material clothing, i.e. cotton or linen, long pants are recommended. 

  • No loose or dangling jewelry, long earrings or scarves.

  • If you have long hair, please have it securely tied back from your face.

  • We will provide safety goggles, but if you have your own and would like to bring them, please do!

This class introduces students to the essential skill of dimensioning rough sawn lumber in a 2 on 1 small class format, providing ample opportunity for personalized instruction, open discussion, and direct interaction with your instructor.  You will learn how to safely process rough-sawn lumber into flat, straight, and square pieces, which is a fundamental skill and the basis for most woodworking projects. Class will cover using a jointer, planer, and the table saw, along with proper wood selection and safety. You will leave with two 3 feet of perfectly dimensioned hardwoods to use in your next project.This class is ideal for beginner woodworkers who want to elevate their skills from using pre-milled, finished lumber to a more foundational and customized approach.
