Make yourself a set of 4 Sushi place settings, a cutting board, and chopsticks.  Embellish them with pyrography (wood burning) or wood carving. Including chopsticks, sushi boards, and a cutting board. The sky's the limit on your creativity, design your own shape and choose the species or combination thereof that you would like to use.

Learn the basics of relief printmaking using wood. This course provides an introduction to carving a block and making a successful print.

This class is ideal for those who have limited experience and to try their hand at woodcut printmaking. Wood blocks can sometimes have an organic look, and you can use the woodgrain to the benefit of your design.

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including carving a woodblock, mixing and rolling ink, and making a print using the press. Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!

Beginner Blacksmithing – Hooks for Home and Garden

Entry Level Class (No prerequisite required) in Blacksmithing

Come create custom hooks of various styles for use around your home and out in your yard. Whether hanging a wreath upon a door, or a hanging basket from your porch, you will learn to shape hooks from different weights of steel bar. This beginning level class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and appropriate use of the anvil. Beginners will develop their tapering, bending, twisting, and punching skills. These techniques are a crucial ingredient for more advanced blacksmithing projects. 

What to Wear in the Metals Studio?  

You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot. 

Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed. 

Personal Property: 

Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage.

Learn numerous approaches for creating and printing your own unique designs on various fabrics and papers. This is a perfect class for anyone interest in printing on fabric and wanting to explore their own patterns and images, including quilters, pattern designers, embroidery artists, collage artists, clothing artists, etc.

Many different relief printing techniques and materials will be covered. These basic processes will be mastered with and without a press so you can print anywhere and anytime.

Starter fabric will be provided, but if you have plant-based fabric (linen, cotton, hemp, etc.) at home that you would love to print on please bring to class.

This class is a perfect introduction for anyone wanting to get started in this craft, or just have a fun day trying something new. You will discover and learn how to design with patterns through print using many different relief printmaking techniques and materials which will then be adhered to your incredibly built creation. These techniques start a creative printmaking journey providing a FUN class for the young-at-heart. Bring your optimism, enthusiasm, and alter ego to create your magnificently awesome mask!

Always wanted to try hand-building, but didn't know where to start? This class is a great intro to the studio in 5 short weeks!

This class is intended to get you familiar with the basics of hand-building. Students will learn techniques like pinching, coiling, and building with slabs. This class is ideal for those who have limited experience, but are looking to learn more with a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week.

Please note: This class does NOT include Open Lab hours or additional clay.

Have you always wanted to try printmaking, but didn't know where to start? This series of classes are ideal for those who have limited experience and want a taste of the varied and intricate art of printmaking. You can sign up for one or all 4 of these "hors d'oeuvre" classes.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques for each of the following: relief, monotype, and intaglio. This will include carving, mixing and rolling ink, and making a successful print.

This class: Relief - learn how to make a simple relief block using speedycut. Ink is rolled onto the surface of the block, and then printed on the press.
