Print Adult Session 6A - Exploring Patterns and Textures - (4 - Week Class)

Explore patterns and textures by layering found objects into prints. 

Learn the basics of monotype printmaking using plexiglass plates, applying ink and incorporating found objects.

This class is ideal for those who have limited experience with printmaking. A monotype is a print that typically starts with a blank surface and results in a unique one-of-a-kind print. In this class, we'll experiments with several methods, such as "painting" on the plate, inking and wiping away, adding found objects, and making simple stencils.

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including making a collagraph plate, mixing and applying ink, and making a print using the press. Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Learn the basics of relief printmaking using linoleum. This course provides an introduction to carving a block and making a successful print.

This class is great for those who have limited experience and to try their hand at linoleum printmaking. Linoleum does not have a grain and is a different experience than carving wood.

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including carving a linoleum block, mixing and rolling ink, and making a print using the press. Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Have a piece of clothing you love, but it's not doing it anymore? Want to stand out from the crowd or show your creative side? You're going to design an image and print it on your clothes!

This is a perfect class for anyone interest in printing on fabric and wanting to explore their own patterns and images. Learn numerous approaches for creating and printing your own unique designs on various fabrics and papers. Several relief printing techniques and materials will be covered. These basic processes will be mastered with and without a press so you can print anywhere and anytime.

Starter fabric will be provided, but if you have plant-based fabric (linen, cotton, hemp, etc.) at home that you would love to print on please bring to class.

 

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Print Adult Session 6A: Connecting Communities, Printmaking and Installation Art (4 Weeks)

In the pursuit of building local camaraderie and creativity come create a site-specific installation of prints of and about your community. The class will transform the perception of space, time, and the meaning of community. Students will come up with vital ideas of what constitutes a community and will begin by making sketches into relief prints. Many different relief printing techniques will be covered. All experience levels are welcome.

Students will first begin with an image of their home or dream house to create different types of relief prints. Throughout the course students can choose to make prints from the list of other important structures and features of their creative community. Towards the end the prints will be organized and collaged on the walls, with the direction of the students, to form the final Community Installation Exhibit.

Come participate in an extraordinary experience and become partners in the thought processes and the creation of an Installation Artwork with a passionate printmaking community.

For the first day of class bring ideas and a couple photos of your home, apartment, yurt, etc. (aka, Living Space)

Print Adult Session 6A - A Touch of Printmaking: Relief (1 - Day Class)

Have you always wanted to try printmaking, but didn't know where to start? This series of classes are ideal for those who have limited experience and want a taste of the varied and intricate art of printmaking. You can sign up for one or all 4 of these intro classes.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques for each of the following: relief, monotype, and intaglio (in the future, screenprinting will also be included). This will include carving, mixing and rolling ink, and making a successful print.

Night 2: Relief - learn how to make a simple relief block using speedycut. Ink is rolled onto the surface of the block, and then printed on the press.

Other Classes in Series: Week 1: Collagraph; Week 3: MonotypeWeek 4: Drypoint

These courses provides a great way to get a real sense of the art of printmaking, and to identify which direction to go next! Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!
