This class is great for students who already have some experience with clay and are looking to take the next step.
The demonstrations for this class go beyond the basics. Students will learn how to make more complex forms and techniques including: altered forms, lidded jars, throwing off-the-hump, sgraffito, and more.
Ages: 16 and above

Note: This class will meet at the Hill location at 1010 Aurora Avenue. You will only have open lab access at the same studio as your class.
Note: There is no class Sept. 2 or Sept. 16. The studio will be closed for Labor Day and our annual Chili Bowl event. This is a 6 week pro-rated class.

Adult Session 6 • Level I Wheel • MON (Oct. 21 - Dec. 16) • Pay What You Can • EAST

For students that have never touched clay to those still learning the basics.
This class will cover the basic “how-to'” of pottery. Students will learn the foundations of throwing, including how to confidently center, pull, and trim pots on the wheel. The class will also cover basic glazing techniques and attaching handles.
PLEASE NOTE: This class runs for 3.5 hours, which includes 1 hour of work time at the end of each class period. You will not have access to the studio outside of the scheduled class time. You will also not have access to the Groundworks other locations.
Ages: 16 and above

This class is focused towards intermediate/advanced students that want to learn more technical skills and studio processes.
The demonstrations for this class will show more advanced techniques, such as how to make larger and more complicated pieces. You will learn more about materials and different processes. Students with individual learning goals or special projects are welcome to join this class.

Adult Session 6A • Whimsical Mugs • MON (Oct. 21 - Nov. 11) • EAST

Learn how to build mugs with a twist of whimsy!
Add a twist of whimsy to each one-of-a kind mug in this class. Start by learning how to build a mug with slabs, followed by demos on how to make your mug come alive - facial features, handles, decoration, color - all in high fire clay. Create a fun companion for morning coffee or afternoon tea.
This class takes place at Groundworks EAST at 3063 Sterling Circle, Boulder, CO. The EAST studio has a separate classroom for this class.
This class meets weekly for 4 weeks on MONDAYS.
Class does NOT include additional open lab time or clay. All work must be completed during class time.
Ages: 16 and above

Metal Adult Session 6A: Hooks, for Home and Garden (4 Week Class)

Come create custom hooks of various styles for use around your homeand out in your yard. Whether hanging a wreath upon a door, or ahanging flower-basket on your porch, you will learn to shape hooksfrom different weights of steel bar. This beginning level class willcover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, andappropriate use of the anvil. Beginners will develop their tapering,bending, twisting, and punching skills. These techniques are a crucialingredient for more advanced blacksmithing projects.
What to Wear in the Metals Studio?
You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot.
Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed.
Personal Property:
Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage.
This class takes place at the new Groundworks studio space at 3750 Canfield Street, Boulder, CO.
