This class is great for those who have limited experience and to try their hand at woodcut printmaking. Learn the basics of relief printmaking using wood. This course provides an introduction to carving a block and making a successful print.

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including carving a woodblock, mixing and rolling ink, and making a print using the press.

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Are you hosting a party soon, and want to make it unique? In this class, you'll make everything you need to host a successful party using block printing techniques.

Each week, students will DIY essential party supplies for New Years Eve or any other holidays or celebrations, including invitations, decorations, accessories, and party favors. Learn the basics of relief printmaking on various materials and come away with skills that can be applied in fun and creative ways.

There will be a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques, including carving linoleum and Speedycut rubber blocks, mixing and rolling ink, and learning how to print on both paper and fabric.

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Calling all Beekeepers! Forge your own J-style hive tool for use in your apiary.  This is an introductory course where you will learn fire safety and management, shaping hot steel, and the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil. You will spend some time forging, filing, twisting, and forming material. You will walk away with a useful bee-yard tool. 

What to Wear in the Metals Studio?  

You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot. 

Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed. 

Personal Property: 

Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage. 

This class takes place at the new Groundworks studio space at 3750 Canfield Street, Boulder, CO.

This is a perfect class for anyone interest in printing on fabric and wanting to explore their own patterns and images. Learn numerous approaches for creating and printing your own unique designs on various fabrics and papers. Several relief printing techniques and materials will be covered. These basic processes will be mastered with and without a press so you can print anywhere and anytime.

Starter fabric will be provided, but if you have plant-based fabric (linen, cotton, hemp, etc.) at home that you would love to print on please bring to class.

Print Adult Session 6B - A Touch of Printmaking: Relief (1 - Day Class)

Have you always wanted to try printmaking, but didn't know where to start? This series of classes are ideal for those who have limited experience and want a taste of the varied and intricate art of printmaking. You can sign up for one or all 4 of these intro classes.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques for each of the following: relief, monotype, and intaglio (in the future, screenprinting will also be included). This will include carving, mixing and rolling ink, and making a successful print.

Night 2: Relief - learn how to make a simple relief block using speedycut. Ink is rolled onto the surface of the block, and then printed on the press.

Other Classes in Series: Week 1: Collagraph; Week 3: MonotypeWeek 4: Drypoint

These courses provides a great way to get a real sense of the art of printmaking, and to identify which direction to go next! Come have some fun in our new printmaking studio!
