Date Night

Join us at Studio Arts Boulder's Date Night! Our instructors will get you set up and working together on potters' wheels for a few hours of dirt and fun.

Make a piece, we'll glaze and fire your favorite one, then give you a call when it's ready in about four weeks.

For any additional pieces you would like glazed and fired, there is a $5 fee per piece.

It's good to wear some clothes you can get dirty and shorter nails will be helpful. :)

Each participant will need their own registration to participate.

Clay and tools are included. 

Must be 18+

PLEASE NOTE:

⁃ Date Night tickets are non-refundable. If you need to change or reschedule your reservation, please do so by 5:00pm on the Monday before your scheduled Date Night. No transfers are allowed after 5:00pm on the Monday prior to your Date Night.

⁃ Registrations are not transferable to another person. If you would like to purchase a class on someone’s behalf, the intended registratrant’s information must be provided at the time of registration. 

⁃ Date Night tickets may only be rescheduled one time.

Print Adult Session 6A - A Touch of Printmaking: Monotype (1 - Day Class)

Have you always wanted to try printmaking, but didn't know where to start? This series of classes are ideal for those who have limited experience and want a taste of the varied and intricate art of printmaking. You can sign up for one or all 4 of these intro classes.

There will be an instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week. Students will try introductory techniques for each of the following: relief, monotype, and intaglio (in the future, screenprinting will also be included). This will include carving, mixing and rolling ink, and making a successful print.

Night 3: Monotype - learn how to make a simple monotype by wiping away ink from a plexiglass plate, and then printing on the press.

Other Classes in Series: Week 1: Collagraph; Week 2: ReliefWeek 4: Drypoint 

Ages: 16+ 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Always wanted to try hand-building, but didn't know where to start? This class is a great intro to the studio in 5 short weeks!

This class is intended to get you familiar with the basics of hand-building. Students will learn techniques like pinching, coiling, and building with slabs. This class is ideal for those who have limited experience, but are looking to learn more with a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week.

Please note: This class does not include Open Lab hours or additional clay.

Ages 16+ to register

Class meets weekly on TUESDAYS.

Note: There is no class the week of Thanksgiving.

Will be available to register on Mon, Sept. 23 at 8:00am.

Youth Classes

Beginner Blacksmithing - Youth Blacksmithing Level 1

Entry Level Class (No prerequisite required) in Blacksmithing

In this course, students will learn to bend and shape steel. Students will practice traditional blacksmithing techniques, such as tapering, bending, twisting, and punching; using the forge and anvil. This class will cover shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, and the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil. Students will leave with valuable skills in blacksmithing while gaining self-confidence with completed projects such as a bracelet, hook, fork, or spoon.

What to Wear in the Metals Studio?  

You must dress safely and appropriately. Arrive for class in all-natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Nylon, polyester, spandex, or other synthetics are not allowed around machines, equipment, or processes that can produce hot fragments, sparks, or flames. Layers are encouraged, as the studio can be very cold or very hot. 

Welding students are recommended to wear long sleeve shirts to prevent arc-flash burns. Additional protective gear shall be provided as needed. 

Personal Property: 

Personal materials will need to go home with you at the end of each class. We do not provide storage. 

This class takes place at the new Groundworks studio space at 3750 Canfield Street, Boulder, CO.

Ages: 10-16 

All supplies and materials will be provided.

Always wanted to try the potter's wheel, but didn't know where to start? This class is a great intro to the wheel in 5 short weeks!

This class is intended to get you familiar with the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel. Students will have 3 weeks of throwing instruction, one week of trimming, and one week of glazing. This class is ideal for those who have limited experience and want to learn the basics of centering, trimming and glazing, with a short instructor demo and hands-on assistance each week.

Please note: This class does not include Open Lab hours or additional clay.

Ages 16+ to register

Class meets weekly on WEDNESDAYS.

Note: There is no class the week of Thanksgiving.

Will be available to register on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8:00am.

This class can be on your own or it is a perfect date night! Forging hooks is an introductory course where you will learn shop safety, fire management, tools and equipment, the appropriate use of the various parts of the anvil and you will spend some time forging, tapering, bending, scrolling and forming material. You will walk away with at least two to three decorative hooks.
